NIGERIAN FASHION HAS A NEW HEAD OFFICE: Studio 29

The fashion industry in Nigeria has not really grown at the same stride as most others in terms of massive revenues, yet it has exceedingly surpassed every other area of youth entrepreneurship when it comes to creativity. While we're rolling over one another to get foreign musicians and actors to the biggest Nigerian events and sending our biggest stars to small one abroad, it's quite the opposite for our fashion and design.

Nigerian designers amongst other African designers, are eagerly being sort for their creative pieces to get on the runways of top Fashion Weeks all over the world, from Paris to Pakistan, Milan to Madrid. To consolidate on this creative boom, the Africa Fashion Week London (AFWL) kicked off in August of 2011, and by mid April, 2013, had birthed the AFWL Studio 29 concession store on 29 Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos.

At the monthly fashion party which held on Sunday 30th June, hosted by AsakeOge, there were impressive designs by such fashion brands as Amarelis, Yutees, Violet Couture, ADORE, Monijo Garnet, Didi Creations, Sally Intiego, X-Ray Clothing, and the host, Asake Oge.

Favourites were the Didi Creations "CALA-BAGS"

There was also a little runway show at the end of the event, though it left me wondering why Africans still buy into the Western ideology that runway models must be skinny. WE WANT REAL WOMEN!

It was a great show, though what was missing was the level of buying that should accompany a fashion sales party. Though it rained all day on Sunday in Lagos, but when did the weather ever stop style?! For lack of adequate masculine items  to pick from, I bought me an ankara designed BlackBerry protective casing...which I later realized was more feminine than anything else.

The small chops, excellent! couldn't resist going back for more. Overall, you have the right to remain sad if you missed the Studio 29 Monthly Fashion Sales Party for June. Don't miss July's and don't forget to come with your wallets and cash cards.
