"MISFIT": The Most Realistic Movie About A Struggle For Freedom In Its Most Basic Form

I got an invitation in my email from someone I'd recently met during the Lagos Fashion Week, and it was to a private screening of "Misfit". I really didn't think I could make it, but I felt it would be nice to show some support to a production team that was keen on doing things right in the Nigerian movie industry.

It's not everyday you get invited to a private movie screening pre-release. In fact, it's hardly ever. So on Friday, I headed to Film House, Surulere, and had about the best Nigerian movie experience ever. If you've seen "The Blair Witch Project", you have an idea of the form in which MISFIT is presented.

From the moment the movie started, it was clear the director set out to do something completely different, and far apart of "Nollywood". There's always this skepticism when watching a good Nigerian film though, and I'm pleased that my skepticism was not proven true this time. With all the emotion, psychology, suspense and realism which this story was brought to life, I describe it as 'the most realistic Nigerian film I've seen yet', and also made sure to segregate it from what is popularly know here as Nollywood. "Misfit" is not a Nollywood production, it is a Nigerian Film!
 

                     

Produced by Abiodun Olagbaju for House5 Productions, and directed by Daniel Emeke Oriahi who also co-wrote it, the movie features Ijeoma Grace Agu, Rita Edward, Kelechi Udegbe and a few more others. It is very necessary to mention the D.O.P, Idowu Adedapu, who contribution to the project can be easily noticed. MISFIT has already premiere on the internet, where it can be streamed from Dobox TV via the link http://www.doboxTV.com/MISFIT , and will start screening in various cinemas across Nigeria in December 2013.
