WORLD AIDS DAY: And The Stars Came Out To Play

I really don't know the rationale behind 'Oyibo' people setting aside December 1st as World AIDS Day...I even wonder if there's a procedure at the U.N or some other international organization for picking a specific day, and just naming it, for instance, World Kuli-kuli Day. Cos really, I've got days to name.

As with everything else in 2012 though, World AIDS Day was shoved into our consciousness via BlackBerry broadcasts, Facebook posts, and Twitter trends. Some even sent out messages like "Happy AIDS Day". 'Who we go blame if not R.I.M.?'

This year though, December 1st had something special for those living with HIV/AIDS, and the general public who need to be more aware about the disease. The Friends Of Africa "VERSUS" Match between ex-Super Eagles' stars, including my number one, Austin Jayjay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Celestine Babayaro, Daniel Amokachi et al, and celebrities from the Nigerian entertainment industry ably represented by MI Abaga, Dr Sid, John Njamah, Sexy Steel, 9ice, Nonso Diobi, and several more took place at the Campos Mini Stadium, Lagos Island, Lagos. Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, was also present at the event.

It was mad fun, but not all fun, cos the entertainment industry really gave a good account of themselves, except of course when Jayjay or Kanu had the ball, it really wasn't nice to look at. The match ended 7-3 with Okocha scoring a hat-trick. If you weren't there, y'all missed...you missed a lot, but you didn't missed out on all, as we had the Borographer at the scene, and he shared with us his photos.
