SURROUNDED BY MORONS: The Case Of The Nigerian President

The Director of Irrigation and Drainage, in the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Mr Joe Kwanashie, has called on Nigerians to curb their voracious appetite for rice to the barest minimum. He advised that the staple now be rationed to at the most, once a week in order to save the country from daily expenditure of 1 billion daily on importations.

Instead of building a blueprint on how to ensure this massive local demand for rice is sustained to ensure a lucrative market for local production which will then the earn N365,000,000,000 annually, he is trying to take us back to the era of Sunday-Sunday rice.

Thus is the nature of senility that has creeped into the every facet of governance in Nigeria, especially at the Federal level, since the ascension of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Just 2 days ago, the Special Assistant to the President on New Media, Mr Reno Omokri, went on to premeditate the death of the Taraba state governor, via Twitter, while the man is still battling for his life.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has been so plagued with blunders in recent time, it is turning out itself to be the biggest one this country has ever made.

We have a misinformed Minister of Information who insists that the President brought Facebook, and the internet to Nigerians, adding more recently, in what can be ascribed as "constitutional back-flip" that his master wasn't obliged to obey the National Assembly.

We're blessed with a Minister of Finance so financially inept, she took her time to come up with a detailed explanation of why N42,000,000 must be earmarked just for the fumigation of the Ministry of Finance in the 2013 budget.

We've been gifted with a Minister of finance who has embarked on a never-ending mission to make all Nigerians pay the penalty for the existence of an "Oil Cabal", which is gradually turning out to be headed by none other than herself.

We'll continue to enjoy the expertise of a Minister of Aviation who has just turned about-face to nullify all the pledges and vows made immediately after the Dana Air crash, admitting on national television, that her initial error in suspending Dana Airline was due to inadequate understanding of global aviation best practices. She really didn't know.

But there's more! We have Hajj officials who claim they were ignorant of Hajj requirements; A Federal Aviation Authority of Nigeria which just awarded the worst airline in the world this year as its best; We have a Special Adviser to the President on Media who has labelled the entire youth "Children Of Anger"; We've had a Minister of Power who claimed to have paid the federal army hundreds of millions of Naira to secure federal facilities; There are Federal Ministers, and Ministers of State which, by the way, are also Federal, who are still trying to figure out what they were hired to do.

The case can be no different in a country where the President who is himself of like mind, appoints a cabinet not on merit, qualification, achievement, or skill, rather, on the basis of the campaign funds looted from the states and into the political party account, and on tribal origin, and on religious inclination. This is the reign of mediocrity inevitable in fulfillment of the doctrine of "Federal Character".

Yet some still wonder why this country is going nowhere but under when we're presided over by a flock of birds of the very same feather. GOODLUCK NIGERIA!
