I recently ran into Naya Amobi, one of the upcoming acts in the
rapidly growing Nigerian movie industry. This Theatre Arts graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe
University, Awka delved into acting professionally in 2005 when she
starred in her first movie/theatre production called Rude Girls, directed by Saint Collins.
Even though I didn't previously know much about her, she has featured in various other stage and
film/TV productions including Four
Crooks and a Rookie, Alan Poza, The King and The Priest, Happy
Family, Birthdays Are not For Dying, The Lion and The Jewel, Midnight Hotel, and Nigeria's biggest hit TV series produced by Multi-Choice, Tinsel.
Her latest work is in the highly anticipated
movie based on the book by Chimamanda Adichie, Half of A Yellow Sun, where she plays Arinze, cousin to Olanna
(Played by Thandie Newton). This is one movie I really can't wait to see.
With such a portfolio in her kitty, Naya Amobi
is definitely one to watch out for in the movies. Don't say I didn't tell you about her.
